Christmas 2013

 This year was so exciting....to have a baby for Christmas! We were sad to not be able to be with family this year, but it was so wonderful to have Adaline with us.

Daddy sang "Silent Night" and Mommy sand "Away in a Manger" to Adaline. She seems to enjoy us singing to her. We were also able to watch "The Nativity" movie. It was a very nice evening. We also kept the Hebdon tradition of opening up one present which was Grandpa and Grandma Hebdon's Christmas gift, pajamas.

She is such a good sleeper, that we had to wake her up Christmas morning so she could nurse.  We opened gifts together. Mommy and Daddy gave stuffed animals, elephant and giraffe that have rattles inside them.

The Bare's had our name this year. Besides the family gift they gave Addie a cute jean skirt and blue jelly shoes.

 We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas this year!! It's going to be a fun year coming up!!

Adaline Mabel Johnson's Birth story

Well, our little girl never came, so we went in for an induction on December 16th at 7:30 am. I was so nervous!! I was really hoping to go in naturally, but oh well, things would go ok, right? Well, we checked in, they gave me a suppository in my cervix to help me dilate (I was only at 3 cm, the same as when they checked me Saturday). So, an hour later, I was allowed to start walking the halls. Which is exactly what I wanted to do. However, not going to lie, it was very awkward due to knowing 30 people that we passed in the hallways. So Joe and I went to the basement, hoping to divert away from the traffic, but then was told we weren't allowed down there. Even after I explained my situation, they didn't budge....so wonderful, the whole hospital knew we were in the hospital having our baby. LOL, I guess that's what happens when you work in such a small hosp. HR, nursing, admitting, EVERYONE knows you....

So then we had to go back to be see if anything progressed. Dr Lyons decided that enough progress was made to start the pitocin. OK, I was getting excited that some change had happened. HOWEVER, now they had to have constant monitors on me...and they were having the hardest time getting a heart rate reading from Addie. So instead of being able to walk around, sitting on the exercise ball, sitting in the hot tub, doing all of these things that we had learned and prepared in the childbirth class went out the window. That's ok, we can play games.... Well, we started to play checkers, and the nurse came in to see what was going on. I guess me leaning forward was altering the contractions, so games were even taken away from me.

This is not a gripe session!! This is what literally happened. Oh, and the nurse couldn't get fetal heart accelerations and deceleration from Addie when I was on my left side, so I pretty much stayed on my right side, sedentary. That's ok, we were in the hospital, having a baby, and we were willing to do whatever they needed.

Dr Lyon's came by at 6:00 pm after clinic hours to check on my progress. She told me she thought maybe we could stop the pitocin, give me a rest and then start up the next morning. I was a little disheartened, but I was ok with that if it meant I could move around and try to get things going. I turned over to let her check me, and at that moment my water broke!! I was at a 5 cm. So that meant we were going to keep things going and hopefully now my body would progress. We were also able to put a monitor on Addie's scalp to monitor her heart rate, and an internal uterine monitor to record the contractions. Well, due to being on such high dosage of pitocin, my contractions were at 1 minute duration, with 30-40 seconds in between each. They checked me again at 8:30 pm and I was still at 5 cm. I finally broke down and asked for the epidural. I had a fantastic anesthesiologist. He only had to try twice and I was so grateful. I was so fatigued from the contractions and holding my position, my muscles were shaking. 

I am not sure if it's just because my body couldn't go into labor, or if it was due to me not being able to move around, or if getting an epidural slowed me down, but by midnight, the nurse checked me again. And I was still not changing. I could tell that the concern was high, and I was so worried that I was going to have to have a C-Section. But my nurse Janet talked to Dr Lyons, and said, "let me work with her, and we will have this baby by the end of my shift". And so she helped me rotate sides throughout the night, increasing the pitocin, watching the monitors....and by 6:00 am when Dr Lyons walked in the door, I was really progressing! They turned off the epidural, so that I could feel the contractions and know when to push.  Around 6:45 am, we started to push. There were 4 nurses in there, cheering me along, with Joe and Dr Lyons. I can't describe the intense pain I felt, no necessarily from the contractions, but from Addie's progression. Sharp pain started on my right side, and then moved to my left side, and then posterior to my tail bone. That pain alone was what kept me pushing so hard. I just wanted it GONE! The contractions were bad, but this pain never let up. Finally they could see the head, and the sharp pain had moved to my anterior pelvis, where Addie was trying to push her way through. They kept saying how much progress I had made, and wanted me to look into a mirror. LOL, Now I wish I would have, but at the time it was not appealing at all. My Dr said that I needed to keep pushing her out, or she would need to get a vacuum. I said, "Please get the vacuum, anything, just get her out". LOL, I can laugh about it now, and enjoy my own funny birthing story. My mom said I could add an act to Bill Cosby's stand up comedy segment about labor, but at the moment I was dead serious! It seemed like forever until her whole head came out. What a relief from that sharp pain! However, her shoulder was stuck and I had to give some additional pushes to help get her released, which she did, and I could feel Addie slip her way out. What a  relief!! 

Our baby girl had been born!! She arrived at 7:34 am, after 45 minutes of pushing. They laid her on my tummy and I began to rub her body, with the nurses help. She had inspired some fluid, and so after a minute or two they took her to the warmer. Joe said one of the nurses asked Dr Lyons if she needed the hemorrhage kit because I was bleeding so heavily. I lost aroundn 500 ml of blood. I guess I had torn pretty good due to it being my first baby, and Addie being so big, and pushing for a short period of time. Anyways, my doctor needed my placenta to detach so she could start stitching me up and help stop the bleeding. Once again, I never expected that much pain. I had asked people how the afterbirth went, and they said it was nothing. Once again, I don't know if it's because we were limited on time due to the bleeding and therefore the placenta wasn't ready, or if I am just a wimp, but she really worked on my exterior tummy, and then she would work internally, back and forth, until finally it detached. LOL, I can laugh about it now, but oh my goodness, I thought I just wanted a break!! I was exhausted and in so much pain. I just wanted a break to catch my breath.

Meanwhile at the warmer, the nursed had a hard time getting Addie to breathe well. So while she was working on me, Dr Lyons walked over to our baby and within seconds, had Addie crying and breathing clearly. Seriously, Joe and I consider Dr Lyon's a huge answer to our prayers. We wanted a doctor who would be patient and understanding and nonjudgmental to our situation. We wanted a doctor who we could trust, be open with, and who would remain calm. I swear she never broke a sweat! So Adaline was doing well, and Dr Lyon's went back to work on me. 

Here is our baby girl on the scale, you can't see it very well, but she is 9 lbs 7 oz. Look at those cute fat rolls on her thighs!! Those were one of my last things to see in ultrasound a couple of weeks before.

She had a little bit of a burn on her forehead from the internal uterine monitor, and it has since healed nicely.

Isn't she just adorable!! We think that she has Joe's eyes and cheeks. And she has my nose and lips.

I will never forget how I felt when they placed her in my arms for the first time. She was so sweet and perfect. I couldn't believe how beautiful Adaline was, and that she was really mine. At that moment, all of the last 24 hours was so worth getting her safely here. I felt so blessed and grateful that all things considered, everything went really well. My greatest blessing that throughout the 24 hours, Adaline's heart rate kept consistent and she never showed distress until at the end when her shoulder was stuck. What a miracle!!

Joe was a rock! I can't express how wonderful he was throughout the whole ordeal. He was so patient and encouraging. What would I do without him? Even Dr Lyons said what a fantastic birthing coach he was. And the nurses were always so impressed with how wonderful he was with me, and especially Addie. He is a natural daddy. And they bonded immediately.

We stayed that night, and the next day we packed to get ready to go home. The nurses were reluctant to let us leave, they had fallen in love with Addie. She was such a good baby, so calm and sweet. Even with a few bumps in the road, at 9:30 pm we were in our car, with our baby girl, driving away from the hospital to the comforts of our own home. Both of us felt ready, and we were excited to be there. We were hoping that my mom would be able to help us those first few days, but unfortunately she had an accident a couple of weeks before. She broke a vertebrae in her back and had surgery on it. She was so sad to have missed out on the Adaline snuggles. We missed her, but will try to make the long 3.5 hr trip so Grandma and Grandpa Hebdon can see our precious baby girl. 

All in all, things have gone really well for the first week. There were a few set backs, and emotional moments, but we survived!! After 4 days of on and off nursing, she has become a professional! And what a relief to this mommy. I never knew how difficult it would be. But it is so worth it!!

Adaline is doing so well. We are so incredibly proud of her and love her so much!! She sleep 4-5 hrs at a time. Which is fantastic at night but during the day, I just want to wake her up so we can play! But I control myself because I know she needs her sleep. I just can't get enough of her!! She is perfect in every way. She has brought such incredible love and joy to Joe and I. We are always taking so many pictures, thinking anything she does is SO adorable. We are absolutely, totally and completely IN LOVE with our baby girl!!

Joe and I laugh about it, but seriously everything that was was covered in the childbirth class DID NOT happen. Seriously, nothing went as planned. There was no moving around to help with the progression of labor. There was no distraction time like playing games, watching movies. Once my water broke and I could really feel the contractions hit, I was 5 cm. My instructor told us that the contractions would be 3 minutes apart, lasting 60 seconds, so therefore giving you time to regroup. Yeah, mine were lasting 90 seconds with a 40 second break. It hit me so hard, no doubt due to the pitocin. There was no warning about the additional crazy pain of feeling the baby move down the birthing canal. There was no warning about the pain of the afterbirth. There was no warning about how emotional and frustrating Breast feeding can be. LOL, I guess they leave it light so that you don't panic. That's ok though. Everything turned out, and we got our baby girl. And yes, we are even talking about our next one =0)

December 12, 2013....Addie's Due Date

The long anticipated date has finally arrived,but no baby! LOL, that's ok. If she needs more time to cook, this mommy isn't going to complain =0)

Yesterday I had a Doctor's appointment and Addie's heart rate was 170's-180's too high for comfort. So we headed to the hospital for a nonstress test (keep in mind I just came from there for work). so after about 1.5 hrs her heart rate came down and everything checked out ok. I was having consistent contractions but I barely felt them. I was only dilated to 2 cm. So my doctor decided to keep me pregnant. But I was told I couldn't return to work, but to take it easy and relax. 

Everyone had so much advice on how to naturally induce yourself, even my own doctor. SO I followed their advice starting at 39 weeks, but nothing really changed... So Friday morning 12/13/13 we went to the movies to see the Hobbit. And all weekend we waited, walked around a CSI campus in Hailey, ate spicy foods, and so on...but Addie was just content to stay in mommy's tummy were it was nice and warm. 

38 weeks, 5 days

St Luke's offers a Childbirth class, and luckily it is free to employees. So we were able to attend them and learn a lot from some professionals. It was a six week class that started in October and ended the middle of November. I had to leave work early and rush to class. So grateful for this experience in preparing for the delivery, breast feeding, and any questions that I rattled off. Here is our little group, smaller than what is normal I guess. The couple the furthest to the right were our favorites, Mark and Aneeta (she is from Poland), superly sweet and fun. They have the same due date as us and are expecting a girl too.

November 26th I had my manager measure Adaline to see how big she was right now. According to her measurements, she would be full term on Thanksgiving, weighing a whopping 8 lbs 12 oz. However Ultrasound can be a pound or so off, so who knows until she is on that scale.

Today we just came back from a Doctor's visit. Adaline is doing well, in the perfect position (with some cheating from me looking in by Ultrasound). Her head is down and her spine is up, so far, perfect. She is so low that the Dr. had a hard time finding her heart beat. She had to angle way low. Her heart rate is in the 130's. She gave Dr. Lyon's a little jab while she was probing. Right now I am 1 cm dilated, 20% effaced. So nothing too scary, and so we are just waiting patiently for Addie to give us the warnings of her debut. We are on the count down!! 38 weeks and 5 days....and counting.

Love that baby girl!! I am not going to lie, I have absolutely LOVED being pregnant. There were a few days here and there that were rough, but over all it has been a wonderful 9 months. I was always worried about this or that, and with priesthood blessing performed by Joe, Heavenly Father has given me a lot of encouragement and blessings. I couldn't have asked for  more. We have been so blessed. I can see myself missing the little miracle of life fluttering in my tummy, making me wonder what she is up to. But we are BEYOND excited to see her cute little face and chubs. When I looked today for her position, I could see the fat rolls in her thigh....!! Can't wait to kiss them =0)

The Nursery

I have been waiting for a way to get the baby furniture up from Arimo. Back in June we bought some stuff from a lady in Rexburg from KSL. A crib with a changing table connected to it, basinet, swing, car seat, stroller, vibrating chair, high chair, and more! Our main goal was the crib so we were excited to get such a great deal. So Kevin, Rachel, family and mom came up for a visit. It was so fun to see them again and to take them around. To be honest, Joe and I don't do a lot up here due to expenses. So we were poor tour guides. But we drove around a bit, and stopped at some thrift stores, which they found some FANTASTIC deals for snowboarding gear. The boys, yes especially Kevin, were so excited.

The nursery, finally looks like a nursery! I still have some pictures to put up on the walls, but I am excited and even Joe has caught my excitement too. However, the crib didn't have all the parts that we needed (huge bummer and annoyance since that is the WHOLE reason why we drove all the way up to Rexburg, but whatever...) But mom had kept her cradle she used for us kids when we were babies. I have always loved it, and asked to use it as soon as we knew we were pregnant. So it will be perfect until Adaline learns how to sit up.

Rachel and Kevin were troopers and put up a laminate tree I bought. I didn't realize how intense it would be...like a puzzle putting all the branches together one at a time...

And it turned out PERFECT!! I asked my mom to pain some wooden birds I bought to put in the tree. Those will be added later, but this is how it turned out...

The bumper and blanket Stephanie found and bought for us. It is so adorable and perfect for our theme. I wanted to have the room decorated like a garden, with flowers, trees, birds, animals...we even are going to put a huge stuff frog in the corner that I bought Joe for our first Valentine's day. It will be colorful, fun, and girly  =0)

This is the basinet we will have in our room for awhile. The blanket was made and quilted by my Grandma Sarah Hebdon. She gave it to us for Christmas last year. I remember looking at it, loving it, but also thinking to myself, well, hopefully we will have a baby girl sometime! I guess Grandma knows best ;0) We love it and hope to keep it nice, a keepsake for Adaline to enjoy...

Thank you Hebdon's for everything!! We love ya and will see you soon =0) 

NOTING: that we also love the Bare's too!! They have given us so many things and we are excited to see them in Thanksgiving. It has been since Memorial Day when we saw them last. We have a fantastic family!! Love you all =0)

Baby Shower from the Ladies at Work...

The ladies at work threw us a Baby Shower. I say "Us" because they invited Joe as well. He is the CSI radiology student for the last 8 weeks of the semester, so they all know and love him too.

There were a few ladies that had to work, or other plans. But we had fun and enjoyed the yummy homemade treats. They also served tomato bisque and grilled cheese sandwiches...hit the spot!! Here is a pic of those who came. The second from the left is my Manager, Kandis Pedersen-Romero who also had a baby boy this July, Christian.

The theme were owls, so adorable!! They had cupcakes decorated with owls. A banner with baby clothes (also having owl prints). They asked me what I would like to be given, and I replied "I know it's boring, but we have so many clothes. We would really like to get DIAPERS". So they all brought a package of diapers, AND also clothes, blankets, bottles, baby needs.... The girl in charge of the shower gave us some clothes, but also stuff for the hospital stay, brilliant!! It was so much fun =0) I am so lucky to work with such wonderful people, and that I love what I do...

When I arrived (I hurried and threw on some clothes after work and ran out the door) they all exclaimed "you do look pregnant!" LOL my scrubs that I have had to resort to (the OR blue scrubs from the hospital) fit like a tent, and it's hard to see ANYTHING in there. So Joe, once again, loving that growing tummy, requested a picture...

And of course, Silky loves that tummy too. She has been SO attentive since we found out we were pregnant. She is always laying across that tummy, and giving Adaline love squeezes with her paws. We will see how much she likes Addie when she arrives. We are hoping for best friends...

Welcome to Idaho!! Rachel and Kevin's family move back!!

We are so excited that things worked out for Kevin and Rachel's family to move to Idaho!! The moved Conference weekend, so we drove down to visit the next weekend. They were able to stop by Nauvoo, and a few of the other church sites. Considering the long drive, I think the kids had a fun time. 

While we were visiting, mom had us pick some apples. The old, bad apples the kids played "smashing apples" (baseball with apples that splattered when they were hit). They LOVED the game, and were always trying to get someone to pitch to them. I even hit a few that Caleb pitched to me.

I can't wait til Thanksgiving and we get to have some of mom's homemade apple pie!! It's so DELICIOUS!! Eating other apple pie has forever been ruined for Joe and I. She does such a great job. I believe she uses my Grandma Hebdon's recipe. I will have to post it for memories.

32 Weeks Update

We went to our doctor's appointment around 32 weeks. Everything went really well, and I passed all of the tests for the final time!! What a relief!! My doctor is Julie Lyons, I seriously could not have hand picked a better fit for Joe and I. She is a general practice physician that delivers A LOT of babies, so we feel good about our choice. She will also be Adaline's doctor when she is born. After the appointment, Joe wanted to take a baby bump picture. He loves my tummy and is so proud of it...

These were taken around the same time. I took a minute of my lunch break to take a peak at her. And got these adorable chubby cheeks!! Oh my goodness, what a cutie... Kevin jokes around saying we have more pictures of her in the womb than he has of his kids after they are born. It's probably true!! I just love ultrasound! And the fun I can have with it. This is our beautiful baby girl...

28 Weeks

I had a little break in between exams. So I decided it had been a few weeks since I took a look at Adaline. She always has her face too close to the placenta, and so it cuts off some of her features. But I got a few pics to show off...

Here is a 3D of her little face. The spot by her eye was either cord or the placenta. but I still thought it was cute =0)

Here is a pic of her sucking her thumb. I caught this using 4D (live ultrasound) and just had to save it. I shared it with Joe and he LOVED these pics of his baby girl!

Like I have said before...this lil' girl is going to be ultrasound all of the time!! I can't help myself...I limit the time I scan her and limit myself on how often I do. The curs of being an ultrasound tech!

Oh, and I was able to take the registry for the Abdomen on the 21st and passed!! Phew! What a relief =0)

I know a lot of you are thinking, what? You already have taken tests.... Well, with Ultrasound, you have multiple registries you can take. To be an official registered tech you take the physics and one specialty. With my employer they wanted me to take physics, OB/GYN, and abdomen. I had a year to do it. Technically I could do a few more, but this momma is ready to relax and enjoy these last few months of pregnancy... So far I have been lucky, and so I have loved it!!

The Emerald City....Seattle!! Aug 22-26

I was given the opportunity to go to an ultrasound seminar in Seattle for work. We covered the musculoskeletal systems (basically all of the joints in the extremities), which is a new and exciting direction for ultrasound. I was beyond excited for the opportunity and Joe was able to get school/clinicals off to come with me.

We were able to fly out of Sun Valley, seriously a third the price from flying out of Boise, sign me up!! We arrived Wednesday around 6 pm, met up with our transport, and headed to the Marriot in Lynnwood, WA. The expenses were covered by Philips (the company we bought the ultrasound machine from) and they gave me a $25 meal voucher for 3 days and breakfast passes at the hotel. So we went to a nearby Italian restaurant called Bucco de Beppo's. It was pretty descent, and we were able to not spend so much money on meals. The next day we went to Anthony's Fish Bar, which was good, but not as great of a price, so we went back to Bucco de Beppo's the following night. 

The only bummer part of the deal was I was in a seminar 8-4, so the day was interesting, but Joe was stuck at the hotel with no transportation. He was quite a trooper. I loved being with him, and being able to enjoy the time together. We went swimming at the pool when I would get off, a huge relief to the prego lady.  

Finally Sunday arrived, the first day that I didn't have a seminar to attend, and we were once again, without transportation. But Joe's older brother Mark lives an hour away, and so he met up with us at noon and we were able to spend some time with him. He took us to look at a house boat he wanted to buy. He decided that would be cheaper than renting an apartment. It was interesting to see the boats, and see the crazy huge boats that were SO expensive. Mark's was quite a bit smaller, but I think it will be fun for him.

We drove down a few hours later to downtown Seattle, where Joe and I met for the first time. We walked around Pike's Market Place, this was Joe's first time since elementary to visit it. He was like a kid in a candy shop. All of the fresh fish, oyster, lobster....the list goes on and on. I was in heaven with the fresh fruit and flowers. Seriously...some of the best tasting nectarines EVER, and the pretties bouquets for such a great price.

We walked what seemed like forever, up a steep street no less, to see the Space Needle. Last time I was there we didn't have time to see it. Being prego, my round ligament was giving me some issues, but we made it.

 I am going to be honest, a little disappointing. It's not worth it, Pike 's Place has definitely all of the attractions. But it was still neat to see the City. By the time we got back to the car we were exhausted and hungry. 

So Mark drove us to our hotel and we enjoyed the rest of the evening relaxing. We flew out early that next morning to Sun Valley, and Joe headed to Twin Falls for his first day of Fall Semester Classes. What a fun trip!! It went way to fast, but it was a great break.

We LOVE Seattle, and would move somewhere like that or Portland. If it weren't for our families and our desire to be close enough to see them regularly, we would be gone!!
